Lost restoration

Lost a restoration? Get the tooth assessed.

A filling, crown, bridge or veneer can sometimes become loose, fracture or come away completely.

At Pristine Dental Group, we provide emergency dental appointments in London 7 days a week, with same-day appointments available where possible. Our aim is to assess the underlying tooth, protect it from further damage and determine whether the restoration can be repaired, re-cemented or needs replacing.

Open 9:00 am – 5:30 pm, 7 days a week
Same-day appointments where available

Lost or broken filling

A missing filling can leave the underlying tooth sensitive, painful or vulnerable to further fracture. Depending on the condition of the tooth, treatment may include:

  • Replacing the filling.
  • Providing a temporary restoration.
  • A larger restoration or crown.
  • Root canal treatment if the nerve is affected.
  • Extraction where the tooth cannot be saved.
broken crown

Lost or broken crown

A crown can become loose because of failure of the cement, decay beneath the crown, fracture of the underlying tooth or damage to the crown itself.

Where appropriate, the crown may be re-cemented.

If there is a problem with the tooth underneath, further treatment may be required before the crown can be replaced.

Veneers 2

Broken bridge or veneer

A broken or loose bridge can affect both function and appearance, while a damaged veneer can feel particularly urgent if it is visible when you smile.

Depending on the problem, treatment may include re-cementing the restoration, temporary repair, composite repair, replacement veneer, replacement crown or bridge, or other restorative treatment.

Where possible, we aim to provide an appropriate same-day temporary or aesthetic solution until definitive treatment can be completed.

What if the tooth cannot be saved?

Occasionally, a restoration comes away because the supporting tooth underneath has fractured or decayed too extensively to restore. If extraction is required, we can also discuss replacement options.

For suitable patients, this may include immediate dental implant placement following extraction, with a temporary tooth also possible where clinically appropriate.
