chipped tooth

Broken a tooth? Get it assessed promptly.

A tooth can chip, crack or fracture unexpectedly while eating, following an accident or because it has become weakened over time.

At Pristine Dental Group, we provide emergency appointments for broken and damaged teeth in London 7 days a week, with same-day appointments available where possible.

Our aim is to determine whether the tooth can be repaired and preserved. If it cannot be saved, we can also discuss appropriate tooth-replacement options.

Open 9:00 am – 5:30 pm, 7 days a week

broken front tooth

Broken front tooth?

Same-day aesthetic treatment may be possible.

A broken front tooth can be particularly worrying because the damage is immediately visible.

Depending on the extent of the injury, treatment may include composite repair, reattachment of a broken fragment, veneer, crown, root canal treatment, or extraction and replacement where the tooth cannot be saved.

Where possible, we will aim to restore both the health and appearance of the tooth.

implant

What if the tooth cannot be saved?

Ask about immediate tooth replacement.

If a badly fractured tooth requires extraction, suitable patients can also be assessed for immediate dental implant placement.

  1. Remove the damaged tooth
  2. Place a dental implant during the same appointment
  3. Provide a temporary tooth where clinically appropriate

This can be especially valuable when an unsalvageable front tooth is involved and you want to avoid a prolonged visible gap.

What should I do if part of my tooth has broken off?

  • Keep it safe.
  • Store it in milk or saliva.
  • Bring it to your appointment.
  • Avoid chewing on the damaged tooth.
  • Keep the area gently clean.

Do not attempt to glue a broken tooth or restoration back into place yourself.

Can a broken tooth be a saved?

Wherever possible, we aim to preserve the natural tooth.

  • Composite repair or filling: Smaller chips and fractures can often be restored using tooth-coloured material.
  • Reattaching the broken fragment: If you still have the piece of tooth that has broken away, bring it with you. In some situations it may be possible to reattach it.
  • Dental crown: A more heavily damaged tooth may require a crown to restore strength, shape and function.
  • Root canal treatment: If the fracture has affected the dental nerve, root canal treatment may be needed before the tooth is restored.
  • Tooth extraction: If the fracture extends too deeply or the remaining tooth cannot be predictably restored, extraction may be necessary.
